Introducing Pieces for Microsoft Teams 🎉

We’re thrilled to introduce the MVP of Pieces for Microsoft Teams, our newest plugin that helps developers to save time and work more efficiently. Bringing Pieces closer to where you collaborate means that you’ll capture more context, spend less time searching for previous snippets, and more easily communicate with your technical teammates.

With Pieces for Microsoft Teams, you can effortlessly save code snippets, capture workflow context, and access other useful developer tools from the Pieces Suite.

Getting Started

In order to use Pieces for Microsoft Teams, you need to have an active Pieces for Developers account! Make sure that your Pieces account and your Teams account use the same email, or the integration will not work correctly.

To get started with Pieces for Teams:

  1. Install the Pieces desktop app. This is required in order to authenticate with the bot.
  2. Log in to the Pieces for Developers desktop app using the same email that you use to sign in to Microsoft Teams. This is required in order to set up the connection between your Microsoft Teams instance and your Pieces for Developers instance.
  3. Install the Pieces Microsoft Teams bot for personal use.
  4. Authenticate with the Pieces bot by typing "login". This will enable Pieces to take actions on your behalf, for instance, by extracting a message’s contents to save it to Pieces.
  5. Add the Pieces for Microsoft Teams Integration to your desired teams and chats.

To make sure the setup worked, find a code snippet or message, and save it by clicking (...) > More actions > Save to Pieces. You should see the contents of your message in the Pieces for Developers Desktop App!

Features

This initial release of Pieces for Microsoft Teams includes three super useful features:

  • Authenticate with Pieces: Log in to the Pieces Chat Bot (used to authenticate the bot on behalf of the user and to save snippets to the Pieces for Developers Desktop application)
  • Save to Pieces: This will save a specific message and any code attachments to Pieces for Developers in real-time, as long as you’re logged in to Pieces for Developers with the same email used to log in to Microsoft Teams.
  • @Pieces Save: This message command will save the previous message to Pieces. To enable this feature, you will need to add Pieces to your desired chat/team.
  • @Pieces Help: Need a little help with Pieces for Microsoft Teams? Send this command, and you’ll get a list of all available commands and tips to help resolve any issues. @Pieces Hello will return similar information!

Future releases will bring even more of the Pieces for Developers Suite functionality to Teams, including auto-enrichment, code-specific OCR, Snippet Discovery, and more.
