How do I update Pieces OS and Pieces for Developers?

When Pieces restarts, it automatically scans for updates. But, if you’re still having issues, you can manually check for updates based on the steps below.

What’s the difference between Pieces OS and Pieces for Developers, again?

Pieces OS is the background service that enables Pieces to work locally and handles communications with any integrations. It’s required to run Pieces and any plugins!

Pieces for Developers is the desktop app where you can see and manage your snippets. From Pieces, you can save, classify, delete, rename, extract code from screenshots and more— we’re adding features all the time!

Windows

Update Pieces OS and Pieces for Developers:

Pieces silently checks for and installs updates on a daily basis. If you’re having trouble with any of the functions, try restarting the app! It will open the newest version.

  • If you’ve downloaded the Pieces Suite, you can click “Check for updates”

  • If you downloaded Pieces from the Microsoft Store, you can manually update Pieces from there, too.

MacOS

Update Pieces OS:

  1. In the system tray, locate the Pieces icon (upper right side of the screen)
  2. Click the Pieces OS icon
  3. In the drop down, select “Check for Updates”

  1. A pop-up loading screen will inform you of your version status
  2. If you’re not up-to-date, click “Update”

Update Pieces for Developers:

There are three ways to update Pieces for Developers:

I. Use the keyboard shortcut [Shift + U]

II. Navigate to “Check for Updates” in your toolbar

III. Manually check for updates in the Pieces for Developers App

  1. Click settings (profile icon)
  2. Within the pop up settings window scroll down and locate “check for updates”
  3. Click “Check for Updates”

  1. A pop-up loading screen will inform you of your version status
  2. If you’re not up-to-date, click “Update”
